Hi. We are Mike and Rob, two engineers and friends who work together at the same company and who happen to share an intense interest in investing for over 25 years. We are both raising families with young children and we view financial success and security as important in achieving our goals and giving our kids opportunities.
As engineers, we love to take things apart and figure out how they work and then re-assemble them in new ways, and so it is with investing. Our backgrounds in research and development mean that we have the tools and curiosity to tease out the essence of complex problems and distill them into useful models to guide our decisions. We have, over these years of studying investments, managed to extract a lot of what works and doesn’t about investing through our constant discussions and our deep research dives into various investing theories and applied situations.
Out of this, we have refined our investment strategy over the last 2 decades. We believe that investing in the highest quality companies at good prices with low turnover and patience will earn excess returns on investment over many years. To that end we have, at great effort, developed a shopping list of great companies that we buy when they go on sale, being depressed because other investors foolishly sell. We call this method Star List Investing, because we only put the highest quality companies – the stars of the investing universe, if you will – on our shopping list. We believe it can be used in a very effective way to earn superior returns over long time periods and we aim to teach you how to do this for yourself, giving you the tools to develop your own list of companies and hopefully, to help you meet your investment goals.
